Local Area Information

The Scottish Borders has a rich and varied history and there are many sights to see...

On our doorstep are the ancient burgh of Lauder, Earlston village, Rhymer's Tower, Smailholm Tower, Black Hill, Melrose Abby and the beautiful town of Melrose itself, which is a ten-minute drive from the cottage. There is fishing on the Tweed River and a lot to explore at Abbotsford House, the ancestral home of Walter Scott. There is fine dining in the form of the award-winning Firebrick Restaurant in Lauder, just five minutes away, and many other cafes, bistros and restaurants dotted around. There are art galleries and potteries tucked in the surrounding towns and hills and many cycling and walking paths to discover.
