• We have just enjoyed a lovely week at Birkhill Cottage. It is a beautiful cottage in a lovely peaceful setting. It is very comfortable and well-equipped. Lara is the perfect host and we particularly enjoyed visiting the animals with her. We had some lovely weather but had we not the cottage was so well-equipped, including toys etc for children, I'm sure we could have happily spent many more hours relaxing there. We will definitely be back one day!

  • What a perfect cottage! We stayed a few nights at the end of October and it was bliss. Beautiful cottage, warm and cozy with everything we needed and spotlessly clean. Loved the fire of an evening after some stunning Autumn walks. Lara could not have been more helpful and we wanted for nothing. We can't wait to come back, we loved every minute! Thank you x

  • We had a wonderful stay in Lara’s beautiful cottage, the pictures really don’t do it justice! It was immaculate, bright, beautifully decorated and felt like a home from home, we will definitely be staying again. Thanks Lara for your warm welcome and thoughtful dog bed and treat

  • I recently had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful cottage with my daughter-in-law and grandchildren. The kids (age 8 and 4) absolutely loved their bedroom which was well planned for a small room. Many toys were there for kids to play with - Lego, games and DVDs among them. Let’s face it - if kids are happy then so are the parents. Lara showed us around their animals and we all enjoyed feeding them. Meeting the alpacas was a highlight for me. I have 2 dogs who were made very welcome and enjoyed walking around the area. We stopped for lunch in Lauder before arriving which was roughly 5 min drive away. The cottage is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine and drier and also every kitchen tool you might need. We loved the log fire as it was rainy and cold when we were there. I will definitely return

  • This is a beautiful cottage in a lovely location. The cottage has been carefully modernised to a very high standard but has some of the original features left in place. The owners are a really delightful couple and we were fortunate to be able to have a guided tour of their gorgeous property to see their large collection of animals including alpacas, goats, sheep, ragdoll cats and chickens. We really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to visiting again very soon.

  • What a fabulous cottage! We travelled to the area as our dog was having specialist treatment in the area and the cottage was ideal. Lara was vey kind and let us in early to drop our stuff off before taking the dog to the vets. The cottage was immaculate with everything you need, and I mean everything!!! It has a fabulous lay out with loads of space but still really cosy. Lara has renovated it to a very high standard and still managed to keep some original features (love the bathroom sink ). The garden is very pretty and safe for dogs and there are loads of quiet country lanes to walk them too. We were left some beautiful eggs and tomatoes from Lara's own garden and she also allowed us to meet her array of furry and feathered friends the next day. All in all I couldnt fault this place or its lovely host,

  • What a wonderful cottage! Lara gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel at home straight away with some freshly harvested cucumbers and eggs! The cottage is very spacious, with a large living room and a private garden at the back - the suntrap conservatory is perfect for lounging and reading. It's very well equipped, the kitchen has everything you might need and our children made good use of the books, games and DVDs. Set in beautiful, quiet countryside there's plenty of opportunity for exploring on foot and lots to do within a short car-ride. We are already planning another visit soon!

  • Super cottage, where dogs are made as welcome as the owners! We stayed 4 nights in July and would have loved to have stayed longer. A spacious, clean and well equipped cottage with hard wood or tile floors across all the rooms downstairs, a small but very secure garden and even large dog bed provided by the fire. When you take five dogs on holiday these sorts of things make a holiday much more enjoyable!
The cottage was really peaceful, on a single track lane with only a couple of other houses close by, yet was within easy travelling of the local shops and towns.
There are plenty of walking opportunities close by, along the River Tweed, or out across the hills, visiting some of the many places and points of interest. (we used Walk Highlands Website for routes) The coast is also within a 50 minute drive and the beaches at Gullane or Bell haven are really worth a visit.
    Highly recommended.

  • A lovely relaxing week spent at Birkhill Cottage, felt immediately at home after a long long journey. The sunshine beams though the kitchen of a morning, so breakfast is a treat, especially if nip into Lauder and bring back freshly baked bread/ fruit scones (Firebrick Bakery). The sitting room is airy but with a cosy feel, a log burner for colder nights, but the residual warmth from the conservatory was enough for us. We were up from Hampshire for specialist vet treatment at Greenside, St Boswells so wasn't able to take advantage of it's great location and surrounding countryside. Next time, we hope to meet up with family and friends in Edinburgh and further afield, but equally, given our restrictions on this visit, our four pawed pals could be walked from the doorstep along the quiet lanes. Thank you Lara - see you again in October.

  • We stayed at this lovely cottage in January and will be back. Lara was very welcoming and gave good directions to the cottage. The cottage is very cosy and welcoming and we had the log burner going every night and was very toasty. The cottage was well equipped and clean. There is a bedroom downstairs (as well as 2 bedrooms, one ensuite upstairs) which made it easier with the dogs and a lovely big posh dog bed that my dogs loved in front of the fire. There is a small fully enclosed garden with good fences so totally safe for the dogs.
The location is 5 minutes from a main road, but down a very quite lane, not sure if I saw anything go past apart from a dog walker and horses.
The dogs were made to feel welcome too without lots of rules - none of us wanted to go home
